5 Quick Natural Shoe Odor Fixes

Weekend's here! And it’s all fun and games until someone’s funky shoes start stinking up the whole building. Unfortunately, those funky shoes might be yours! Hot temperatures generally result in sweaty feet, which leave moisture behind in shoes resulting in funky odor. But, don’t throw those funky smelling shoes away just yet because below I’ll be teaching you some of the most effective ways to get rid of these odors.

1. Use Baking Soda

To make the ultimate odor eliminator you’ll need some baking soda, a coffee filter and a piece of rubber band. Just pour some baking soda into the coffee filter (2 – 3 tablespoons), add a few drops of essential oils to give it a nice aroma (optional), close the filter and use the rubber band to tie it off.

Next, place the mixture in each shoe overnight so that it can absorb the smell and moisture.

For even easier and faster results, you can make shoe powder instead. Just add a couple drops of essential oils to some baking soda, and then sprinkle the powder into the shoes. Allow it to sit overnight and then dump it out in the morning.

2. Essential Oils in Cotton Balls

Add a couple drops of essential oils onto a few of cotton balls, put them inside the shoes, and allow to sit overnight. I advise you use lemon oil, or something else that has a clean citrus scent!

3. Sunshine can help

Putting your shoes out to dry in the sun can help get rid of the smell, especially as moisture is one of the main causes of shoe odor. Drying out your shoes will also help prevent the growth of bacteria.

4. Lemon Peels

Put a couple of lemon peels in your shoes and let them stay the usual ‘overnight.’ It’ll help give a fresh, new smell to those smelly shoes.

5. Use Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is more than just an antiseptic. When you spray some into your shoes, it’ll help dry out the moisture causing the awful smell and hopefully allow you use your shoes again as well as kill bacteria.

Tried some or all of these and they just don’t work? Or maybe just need an easier way to get rid of foot odor without having to remember to buy this, stock that or go through a process almost every night?
